Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Prediction Using Isolated Premature Atrial Events and Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia

چکیده
A simplified predictor of episodes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) is presented. Over a thirty minute monitoring time, the number of premature atrial complexes (PAC) without normal sinus node reset is counted. When the number of such PACs changes by more than 2 over the monitoring period, a PAF prediction is made. The PAC test is supplemented with a paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (PAT) test that uses a similar approach in identifying and counting episodes of PAF. The combined PAC and PAT test yields a sensitivity of 68%, a specificity of 86% and a positive predictivity of 86% on the public test PAF database from the 2001 Computer in Cardiology. Keywords—Atrial fibrillation, PAF, prediction

Asymptomatic arrhythmias in patients with symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.
BACKGROUND Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia are recognized clinically when patients seek treatment for symptoms due to recurrent arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation also increases the risk of stroke. The frequency with which asymptomatic arrhythmias occur in patients with these arrhythmias is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty-two patients with paroxysm...
متن کاملArrhythmia/Electrophysiology Intrinsic Cardiac Nerve Activity and Paroxysmal Atrial Tachyarrhythmia in Ambulatory Dogs
Background—Little is known about the relationship between intrinsic cardiac nerve activity (ICNA) and spontaneous arrhythmias in ambulatory animals. Methods and Results—We implanted radiotransmitters to record extrinsic cardiac nerve activity (ECNA; including stellate ganglion nerve activity and vagal nerve activity) and ICNA (including superior left ganglionated plexi nerve activity and ligame...
متن کاملParoxysmal supraventricular tachycardia: is the atrium a necessary link?
Whether or not the atrium plays an essential role in initiating and/or sustaining atrioventricular (A-V) nodal re-entrant tachycardia was evaluated in eight patients. In all eight patients, the atrium could be rendered refractory to retrograde atrial echoes during the tachycardia without interrupting the arrhythmia. This was accomplished by introducing atrial premature depolarizations prior to ...
متن کاملFrequent atrial premature beats predict paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in stroke patients: an opportunity for a new diagnostic strategy.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE For patients having suffered ischemic stroke, the current diagnostic strategies often fail to detect atrial fibrillation as a potential cause of embolic events. The aim of the study was to identify paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in stroke patients. We hypothesized that patients with frequent atrial premature beats (APBs) recorded in 24-hour ECG will show more often atrial...
متن کاملIsolated atrial infarction in a patients with single vessel disease of the sinus node artery.
Atrial infarction is found in approximately 17 percent of autopsy-proven cases of myocardial infarction, but is a frequently missed clinical diagnosis. The antemortem diagnosis of atrial infarction occurring in the absence of ventricular infarction has not been previously reported. We present a patient with ischemic chest discomfort associated with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Electrocardiog...
